Drafies make a plan!
Here
is a way for those drafies or drafts ladies who want to learn
HTML and how the web work.
When the web hit South Africa in the 90's I've made work of it to find out how it work.
First I learned HTML programming (Hyper Text Markup Language), that's the progamming language you use to develop websites.
Very easy to learn. Just right click on this page then left click on View Page Source. You'll see all the coding opened by Notepad.
Notepad is a text editor. I write my sites in Notepad and when done I run it through a HTML editor.
I use AOLPRESS. It's a free editor and easy to learn - free download from the internet.
The reason it fixes minor mistakes, rewrite the code so it's Search Engine friendly.
You'll notice it moves the title from the top to the bottom, not to worry though.
A website start with HTML and end with /HTML. The head......./head section holds the Meta tags title...../title, Meta name description, Meta name keywords. You'll see I've got the title in lower case. Lower upper case it does'nt matter. STYLE type, this determine how your text appear in the body of your site.
Now we get to the body of the website. You can use a picture file or you can determine a certain colour, body bgcolor = #ffffff, this sets the background color to white or you can use a graphic, body background = filename.gif .
Remember the web is a big place with a variety of browsers You want your site to look good on all of them.
You'll see the body text is set to black #000000 and the H1 H2 sets the text height and font.
The layout of the site is been controlled by the table tag.
The trick with search engines is keywords in the domain name in the title/description/keywords tag and sprinkled in the body text.
To create a website, your main page, save it as a index.html file.
Regard your index.html as your ga, sitemap.htm as a sub assy and the rest of the pages as your details .
A sitemap helps with search engines listing.
It contain hyper links to all your pages.
To get your stuff on the web is very easy.
First you need a domain name.
You can register a new domain or you can make use of free hosting.
To register a new name go to http://www.domainguru.com
You need a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program to upload your files to your host, download a free program from http://www.thefreesite.com
Search engines. Go to http://www.google.com/addurl.html to list your domain with Google, Yahoo - Look for ADDURL, Bing - Look for ADDURL.
You only have to list your index.html file. Google will spider the rest .
