Through the years have I tried various methods and found that the most traffic come from the search engines.
By writing articles and submitting them to article directories not only help you directing traffic to your website it is also a great way to get back links to your website.
Search engines place high value on quality back links when it comes to page rank. The more quality back links you generate the higher you rise in the search results.
Then to have only one website is not enough. I have over two hundred websites listed with the search engines and many times do I get a click through from my link pages.
What also help driving traffic is to setup a blog and you can do it for free with wordpress or blogger.
Here are some tools I employ to further drive traffic to my websites.
I create lens pages with squidoo link them to my website and when indexed by the search engines they help to generate back links and help driving traffic.
Also did I setup a account with twitter which has a high page rank and serves as a quality link.
Then do I also add a news feed to my website. It is called Real Simple Syndication or in short an RSS file. The beauty of RSS files is the news aggregators pick up your RSS news and that can generate a lot of traffic to your website.
Further do I participate in marketing forums adding my website link in the signature. This create another back link to my website which the search engines just love.
I also update my websites with new content and ping the social media pingomatic which also lead to more traffic and click throughs.
Search Engine Optimization. I do a lot of updating my websites titles descriptions and keywords to make them as search engine friendly as possible.
However it do not help you much if you target the wrong or not so much searched keywords. Best is to do a keyword search that are popular with not so much competition in the search engines. Go to wordtracker.com
Some communities that help a lot to get traffic and back links is stumbleupon, delicious and digg.
Then to swap links with other webmasters is also a great way to get back links to your website.
